MT LONGONOT

MT LONGONOT

Located 90km from Nairobi in the Great Rift Valley, Mount Longonot National Park is a popular hiking destination, offering a 3-4 hour round trip. It's one of the best adventure day trips from Nairobi, easily accessible and providing fantastic sightseeing opportunities, including a view inside the mountain’s crater. The journey starts with a picnic lunch as you travel through the lush Kikuyu Highlands, then descend into the Rift Valley’s eastern escarpment. During a brief stop at a viewpoint, enjoy a panoramic view of the Rift Valley floor. The Rift, formed 5 million years ago, stretches from the Red Sea through Ethiopia, Kenya, and Tanzania. It’s an active volcanic region, home to lakes, geysers, and dormant volcanic mountains like Mount Suswa and Mount Longonot. The scenery from this vantage point is spectacular, offering a perfect photo opportunity. Upon reaching Mount Longonot National Park, begin your hike up to the crater rim. The hike requires moderate fitness, with rest stops along the way. Once at the rim, take in the breathtaking views of the crater below. If you're up for it, you can also trek around the crater’s rim. Enjoy a picnic lunch at a scenic spot before descending to the park headquarters and returning to Nairobi in the evening.
