2 Days Cultural Tour and Longido Mountain climbing
Day 1: Namanga/Moshi/Arusha – Longido Maasai Village
Transfer from Namanga Border, Arusha, or Moshi to Longido Centre. From there, continue to Kimokouwa campsite via a scenic route along Maasai cattle trails. Stop at a traditional Maasai village along the way to interact with locals and learn about their way of life. Arrive at the campsite in the late afternoon. Enjoy dinner and storytelling around the fire. Overnight at the campsite near the slopes of Longido Mountain.
Day 2: Longido Mountain Trek – Cultural Encounters
After an early breakfast, begin your guided trek led by Maasai warriors. Walk along narrow forest trails, learning about the local ecosystem and traditional herbal medicine. After 3 hours, arrive at the stunning “Dawa ya Soup” viewpoint. Continue for another 2-hour hike, following buffalo trails to the summit. The panoramic views stretch across the plains and all the major mountains of Northern Tanzania on a clear day.
Descend carefully with your guides (approx. 3 hours). After a brief rest at camp, hike 1.5 hours to the jeep track, where your vehicle awaits. Enjoy a picnic lunch en route. If time permits in the afternoon, visit the Faraja Women’s Group for traditional entertainment and handicraft exhibitions, or proceed to your next destination.
Note: All Maasai guides are locals trained in tourism and safety. Most speak basic English or communicate using gestures. They are armed with traditional weapons for protection and have identification authorized by the cultural tourism program.
